Coongie is a center designed for those who are dedicated to creating actionable solutions to some of the planet’s most pressing issues of our time.  We provide direct-aid, advocacy and resources to alleviate suffering in our local community and abroad.

In 2020 when COVID hit Coongie provided organic food, supplements and herbal medicine to individuals and families who were facing financial hardship. When the CZU fires burned through our mountians our team mobilized to provide support with evacuation, organizing food programs for evacuees, supporting short-term and long term housing, counseling, herbal-medicine, leading community workdays and providing toxic-debris run-off remediation to prevent toxins from going into our watershed. Our Executive Director Rebekah Uccellini collaborated with an amazing volunteer team to build SCRelief.com- a mutual-aid hub which connected those who want to help with direct needs that they can plug into. For the past 2.5 years, Coongie has continued to provide advocacy, housing and counseling for those who have fallen through the cracks to get them back on their feet.

We also work to identify other unmet needs in the community and to help to fill those needs as effectively as possible. Throughout the 2023 Storms that has looked like: Providing evacuation housing, food, advocacy, firewood, gas, propane and delivering emergency generators to those medically vulnerable. We also have been providing end of life care, medical advocacy and granting final wishes to those who are navigating terminal cancer.

In August 2023, the high-wind fire event on Maui destroyed the town of Lahaina.  Our executive director, Rebekah, flew out to use all of the knowledge gained from navigating the previous disasters in here in California which has proven to be critical support for the community on Maui.  She continues to be on island supporting with direct aid and home placement, as well as supporting efforts to mitigate environmental impacts from the fires and building long term recovery efforts for the now dire housing shortage in the wake of the disaster.  Coongie continues to support these efforts through helping direct funding towards the most impactful people and organizations on Maui.

All donations are 100% tax-deductible as Coongie! is a California-based non-profit 501c3
